Soon, the metal world will get to absorb the sounds of GATEKEEPER<\/strong>\u2019s first full-length album, \u201cEast Of Sun\u201d<\/strong>, an epic metal tour-de-force that will see the light of day this April via Cruz Del Sur Music<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Rewind back to the early months of 2017, though, and it was legendary British artist Duncan Storr<\/strong> (DARK FOREST<\/strong>, EDGE OF SANITY<\/strong>, RAGE<\/strong>, SKYCLAD<\/strong>) who became one of the first people to hear the demos that would ultimately become \u201cEast Of Sun\u201d<\/strong>. Well before they were signed to Cruz Del Sur<\/strong>, GATEKEEPER <\/strong>leader Geoff Blackwell<\/strong> mustered up the courage to email Storr<\/strong> a demo to see if he\u2019d be willing to work on the project. Luckily for Blackwell<\/strong> and co., Storr<\/strong> took an immediate liking to GATEKEEPER <\/strong>and got down to business.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cI liked the demo and asked to hear a few more songs if they had more,\u201d says Storr<\/strong>. \u201cGeoff <\/strong>sent me over another two demos to listen to so I could get a good feel for their sound. The titles of the tracks \u2018Warrior Without Fear\u2019<\/strong>, \u2018Oncoming Ice\u2019<\/strong>, and \u2018East Of Sun West of Moon\u2019<\/strong>, sparked something and I got a few ideas from listening to the tracks.\u201d<\/p>\n Storr<\/strong> proceed to reach into his vault and selected an unfinished piece he thought would be suit\u00a0GATEKEEPER<\/strong>. \u201cI sent Geoff <\/strong>a few of these images and relayed how I would like to incorporate some of the song ideas and embellish the atmosphere in the painting,\u201d he says. \u201cHe got back to me\u00a0after showing the rest of the band. The band have been great to work with and have kept me informed and added more demos for me to work with as I paint. I find this always helps.\u201d<\/p>\n “We had a short list of people that we wanted to work with on this album and Duncan Storr<\/strong> was on it,\u201d adds Blackwell<\/strong>. \u201cHe is a real gentleman and a master behind the paintbrush. The piece he showed us instantly clicked with our vision for the record and in a way, it drove us to work even harder on the music in order to match the quality of his art.
