Cruz Del Sur Music<\/strong> is proud to announce the signing of Los Angeles doom metallers STYGIAN CROWN<\/strong>. The label will release the band\u2019s self-titled debut in May 2020.

STYGIAN CROWN<\/strong> was formed in 2018 by former MORGION<\/strong> and current GRAVEHILL<\/strong> drummer Rhett Davis<\/strong>, who tapped his GRAVEHILL<\/strong> bandmates Nelson Miranda<\/strong> (guitar) and Jason Thomas<\/strong> (bass) to help launch the band. MORBID ECLIPSE<\/strong> guitarist Andy Hicks<\/strong> was the next to join, and with the help of longtime friend Bob Kassing<\/strong>, vocalist Melissa Pinion<\/strong> was discovered after Kassing<\/strong> (who has since sadly passed away) showed Davis<\/strong> a YouTube video of her singing a cover of IRON MAIDEN<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cHallowed Be Thy Name\u201d<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJason<\/strong>, Nelson<\/strong> and I\nhave been doing GRAVEHILL <\/strong>for quite a while,\u201d notes Davis<\/strong>. \u201cThe\nthree of us had always wanted to do a band in this vein so we started writing\nmusic in between commitments for GRAVEHILL<\/strong>. The three of us are fans of Andy<\/strong>\u2019s\nband, MORBID ECLIPSE<\/strong>, and invited him to sit in with us. His chemistry\nwith Nelson<\/strong> \u2014 that Adrian Smith<\/strong>\/Dave Murray<\/strong> type of chemistry\n\u2014 you can\u2019t fabricate that. Personally, I admire guitarists who can mesh like\nthat. Melissa<\/strong> also has quite a bit of music to contribute \u2014 more than we\ncan keep up with.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To date, STYGIAN CROWN<\/strong> has\nonly the 2018 \u201cThrough Divine Rite\u201d<\/strong> demo to their credit. The demo was initially\ntracked before Pinion<\/strong> joined the band, but once she laid down her vocals\nand the mixing and mastering process was complete, the three-song offering\nquickly started making the rounds in the doom community. It wasn\u2019t too long\nbefore STYGIAN CROWN<\/strong> fell into the lap of a familiar face.

\n\u201cWe were initially\ncontacted by Skol Records<\/strong>, but while discussing with [label owner] Bart\nGabriel,<\/strong> he handed us over to Tom Phillips<\/strong> of WHILE HEAVEN WEPT<\/strong>\nto instead work with Cruz Del Sur<\/strong>. It\nwas surreal to find ourselves working with Cruz Del Sur<\/strong>, as an old\nfriend of mine Aesop Dekker<\/strong> (ex-AGALLOCH<\/strong>) recommended the label\nto me months previously. Just them, nobody else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STYGIAN CROWN<\/strong>\nis currently hard at work on their debut self-titled album. Drums will be\ntracked at Trench Studios<\/strong> (EXHUMED<\/strong>, HIRAX<\/strong>) with John\nHaddad<\/strong>. Guitars, bass and vocals will be tracked at Mirand<\/strong>a\u2019s home\nstudio, and mixing and mastering will be handled by Mark Kelson <\/strong>of THE\nETERNAL<\/strong>\u2019s Kelsonic Studios<\/strong> in Australia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for what fans can expect, try\nthis combination on for size:
