Cruz\nDel Sur Music<\/strong> is\nproud to announce the signing of Australian occult doom metallers THE WIZAR\u2019D<\/strong>.\nThe label will release the band\u2019s new album, \u201cSubterranean Exile\u201d<\/strong> on\nApril 24. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Formed in\n2004 by guitarist\/vocalist Ol\u2019 Rusty<\/strong>, THE WIZAR\u2019D<\/strong> quickly staked\ntheir claim as one of their country\u2019s best representation of vintage doom in\nthe vein of BLACK SABBATH<\/strong>, WITCHFINDER GENERAL<\/strong>,\nPAGAN ALTAR<\/strong>, SAINT VITUS<\/strong> and TROUBLE<\/strong>. A series of demos,\nsingles and EPs would follow before the band\u2019s first studio album, 2008\u2019s \u201cInfernal\nWizardry\u201d<\/strong>. Along the way, THE WIZAR\u2019D<\/strong> (who are completed by second\nguitarist Master of the Night<\/strong>, bassist Blackie <\/strong>and drummer Maniac\nFrodsham<\/strong>) developed their own style while paying homage to the aforementioned\nbands. 2010\u2019s \u201cPathways Into Darkness\u201d <\/strong>and \u201cAncient Tome Of Arcane\nKnowledge\u201d<\/strong> only generated further interest in THE WIZAR\u2019D<\/strong>, with the\nband notching a prime slot at the 2010 installment of the Hammer Of Doom<\/strong>\nfestival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new year will bring forth the band\u2019s latest studio album, \u201cSubterranean Exile\u201d<\/strong>. Drum tracking started in January 2018 at The Green Room<\/strong> in Hobart; the rest of the album was tracked at Heavy Chains HQ<\/strong> and was completed in May 2019. However, as Ol\u2019 Rusty<\/strong> explains, THE WIZAR\u2019D<\/strong> wanted to make sure they were one-hundred percent satisfied with the results. \u201c\u2018Subterranean Exile\u2019 <\/strong>follows on from where \u2018Ancient Tome\u2019<\/strong> left off, we are still conjuring the same kind of arcane metal magick as the previous two albums, but in a more refined and direct way,\u201d he notes. \u201cThe production on the new album is also a big step up from anything we’ve done before, thanks to the lengthy recording and mixing process and also thanks to the mastering job from Patrick Engel<\/strong>.\u201d

As for the band\u2019s deal with Cruz Del Sur<\/strong>, \u2018Ol Rusty <\/strong>explains that the band made a list of \u201ccool\u201d labels they wanted to work with. At the top was Cruz Del Sur<\/strong> and its sub-label, Gates Of HellRecords<\/strong>.

\u201cBoth have an impressive roster of bands and operate and present themselves in a cool, old-school manner which we think is important,\u201d he says. \u201cGates Of Hell<\/strong> was impressed by the album but felt that it might be better suited to what their parent label Cruz Del Sur<\/strong> is releasing these days.
