SACRED LEATHER to release “Ultimate Force” on Feb 23, 2018

“Since the incarnation of Sacred Leather, it has been this band’s mission to return the true essence of heavy metal to the masses.” – Dee Wrathchild, vocals

While time travel is merely a figment of the imagination, Sacred Leather’s brand of steely, raucous and pure metal straight out of 1983, is not. Brandishing leather and chains, rafter-reaching vocals and scorching solos, Sacred Leather represent heavy metal in its truest form on their first full-length album and debut Cruz Del Sur Music release, “Ultimate Force”.

The product of five metal banshees from the midwestern portion of the United States, Sacred Leather has spent the better part of their existence fine-tuning their live presentation while releasing a series of singles and splits in preparation for “Ultimate Force”. Written over the course of two years, “Ultimate Force” was recorded during the fall of 2017 at Earth Analog Studios in Tolono, Illinois, with additional sessions taking place at Beware Sounds and Clandestine Arts Recording in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mixing and mastering was handled by Sacred Leather lead guitarist Carloff Blitz at Clandestine Arts Recording shortly thereafter.

The result is a fierce blend of classic and thrash metal, fully capable of unleashing an all-out blitz (“Ultimate Force”, “Master Is Calling”), dealing mid-tempo bashers (“Watcher”, “Power Thrust”) and perhaps best of all, offering an epic, towering ballad in the form of “Dream Searcher”, which, according to lead vocalist Dee Wrathchild, is the most ambitious track on the record. “It’s centered around the theme of heartbreak. A man has lost his love and is only able to be reunited with her in his dreams. He is poised to suffer eternally in reality, but in the realm of sleep, he is able to revisit her.”

“The lyrical themes touch on everything from lust and love to life and death, as well as otherworldly/dystopian landscapes,” continues Wrathchild. “In its true form, heavy metal has always served as an escape from reality, whether it transports you to a fantasy world or a reprieve from everyday struggles – it’s very powerful. We feel that we’ve created a record that does exactly that for the listener.”

The album’s cover—created by bassist Magnus Legrand—features a panther navigating through a post-apocalyptic landscape. “This has always been a staple in Sacred Leather’s imagery: Iconography that provides a juxtaposition of alpha masculinity and stealthy feminine finesse,” notes Wrathchild. “The concept that Magnus created for the artwork of ‘Ultimate Force’ is meant to reference the idea of strength gained through adversity and it serves as a visual backdrop for the listening experience.”

Heavy metal with this kind of conviction is not to be taken lightly. On “Ultimate Force”, Sacred Leather brings the hammer and anvil, the silver and steel, magic and might, providing one of the most convincing representations of metal to be heard in 2018. “Heavy metal represents individualism in the face of conformity and an escape from reality,” concludes Wrathchild. “You can crank it up, bang your head, and you will always have thousands of brothers and sisters in heavy metal that connect with what they are hearing as much as you do. It’s timeless. It’s power. It’s the ‘Ultimate Force’.”

“Ultimate Force” will be released by Cruz Del Sur Music on compact disc, vinyl, limited vinyl and digital on Feb 23, 2018.

RAVENSIRE Announce Lineup Changes, New Festival Assaults

Portuguese battle metal outfit RAVENSIRE has announced the addition of guitarist Mário Figueira and drummer Alex Fonseca. The pair replaces Zé RockHard and Francisco Machado, respectively. The band’s most recent album, “The Cycle Never Ends”, was released in 2016 by Italy’s Cruz Del Sur Music.

Comments guitarist Nuno: “After we finished recording our album ‘The Cycle Never Ends’, we started preparing for the shows that would follow. Unfortunately, after a while, Zé started facing some changes in his personal life that prevented him from rehearsing as much as he would’ve liked. So, after a few weeks in a sort of limbo, he finally approached us and told us that he couldn’t continue playing with the degree of commitment needed, so he’d leave the band in order for us to find a replacement as soon as possible. After some searching, we had a few guys willing to step into Zé’s shoes.

“So, we planned a few auditions and there was no question that Mário would be the one taking the battleaxe for future battles! Although Mario played mainly in death metal acts in the last decade (BLEEDING DISPLAY, for example), recently he had been reconnecting to his roots and started playing in a hard rock band called 15 FREAKS. Another fun fact was that way before Zé left the band, he saw a RAVENSIRE concert and enjoyed our sound so much that he got in touch with us! Who knew that one year later he’d be joining the fold?”

Shortly after the departure of Zé, long-time drummer Francisco Machado stepped down from RAVENSIRE, citing personal matters. “Honestly speaking, this was an even bigger blow, because F had been one of the main forces in getting RAVENSIRE together,” says Nuno. “Of course, we fully understood his motives and nothing changed in our friendship. This time, though, instead of trying to find a replacement and going through auditions and whatnot, we went straight to MIDNIGHT PRIEST‘s drummer Alex since we knew he was available to commit to another band and we’ve been friends and mutual fans of each other’s bands since the beginning!”

RAVENSIRE’s lineup now consists of:

Rick – Vocals / Bass

Nuno – Guitar

Mário – Guitar

Alex – Drums

With their new lineup in place, RAVENSIRE has begun work on their third full-length album, which they plan on recording during the first half of 2018. The band has also planned some new live assaults:

December 9, 2017: Riddle Of Steel Festival, Marburg, Germany with A SOUND OF THUNDER, HEATHENS OF THE NORTH, ARKHAM WITCH, IRONSWORD, BATTLE RAM
December 22, 2017: Cascais, Portugal with CAPE TORMENT, MIND TAKER and TUMENT
February 16, 2018: Bordeaux, France with SILVER MACHINE
February 17, 2018: Rennes, France with SILVER MACHINE

April 14, 2018: IX Metalmeria Fest, Almeria, Spain

OLD MOTHER HELL Earns Rock Hard Magazine’s December 2017 ‘Demo Of The Month’!

Emerging German power/doom trio OLD MOTHER HELL have taken home the honors of Rock Hard magazine’s December 2017 “Demo Of The Month”, awarded to the band for their self-titled debut album. The six-song effort will be released on digital and vinyl platforms by Italy’s Cruz Del Sur Music in early 2018.

“We were absolutely thrilled when we got this fantastic piece of news,” says guitarist/vocalist Bernd Wener. “Rock Hard is one of the most important metal magazines in Germany and probably in the whole German-speaking area.”

The news caps off an impressive 2017 for OLD MOTHER HELL, who recorded their self-titled debut in May 2017 at Rama Studio Mannheim under the supervision of producer/engineer Jens Siefert. The album, originally released by the band in September, is a firebrand display of surging metal, capped off by Wener’s gritty vocals and tinges of doom and epic metal, uniquely positioning OLD MOTHER HELL as one of the most versatile new bands of the year.

However, Wener, along with bassist Ronald Senft and drummer Ruben André are no strangers to the German metal underground. The trio gradually honed their respective crafts in bands such as HATCHERY, GRAVEYARD, REFUGE and SHAPESHIFT before finding their true home in OLD MOTHER HELL.

“First the Cruz Del Sur Musicdeal, now ‘Demo Of The Month’ in Rock Hard,” notes Wener. “It is like all the dreams from our youth are finally coming true. Working your asses off in different bands for more than 20 years now and suddenly, you are in the right place at the right time with the right bandmates. Everything just seems to happen. We are deeply grateful for all this.”

“Old Mother Hell” track listing:

01. Another War

  1. Mountain
  2. Narcotic Overthrow
  3. Howling Wolves
  4. Kneel To No God
  5. Old Mother Hell
